Cast bronze fittings, identified by part numbers starting with a 535- (5 3 5 dash), contain lead or lead compounds in excess of the allowable amount listed in the Proposition 65 chemical database. These fittings are NOT intended for use in potable water systems, and are ONLY intended for use in irrigation or other NON-potable systems.

Edmund A. Gray Company DOES stock and sell (“Low-Lead”) bronze fittings, identified by part numbers starting with a 535L (5 3 5 and the letter L) that are fully compliant with the regulations and allowable limits listed in the Proposition 65 chemical database. These bronze fittings ARE intended and allowed for use in potable water systems.

Nickel is a component of
stainless steel pipe, pipe nipples and fittings. Nickel is listed in the Proposition 65 chemical database, and is currently (as of 2018) undergoing further evaluation with regard to its listing and classification. Edmund A. Gray Company does not add, or cause to be added, any nickel (or any other listed chemical) to the stainless steel pipe nipples we cut and thread from the pipe we purchase nor to the pipe fittings we purchase.

During the pipe manufacturing process and/or the fitting casting process, nickel is added to increase corrosion resistance (thus making it ‘stainless’), strength and flexibility, and temperature resistance. These processes occur prior to us receiving the pipe and/or fittings. Stainless steel (containing nickel) is approved for potable water systems, however, by virtue of its listing by the State of CA, we must notify of its presence in stainless steel.
